China Reportedly Delays Airbus Jet Approvals Amid COMAC Certification Frustration

China has reportedly been slowing approvals for new Airbus aircraft deliveries as Beijing grows increasingly frustrated with delays by European regulators in certifying Chinese-made aircraft from COMAC.

According to a Bloomberg News report, China’s aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, has delayed final approvals required for Airbus jets to officially enter the country and begin commercial service over the past several months.

The move is reportedly intended to signal Beijing’s impatience with European authorities over the slow certification process for COMAC aircraft in Europe.

Aircraft certification is critical for international expansion because it allows airlines to operate planes across foreign markets. China has been pushing aggressively to expand COMAC’s global presence, particularly with its domestically developed C919 passenger jet, which is designed to compete with aircraft produced by Airbus and Boeing.

The reported delays add another layer of tension to the broader competition between Western aerospace manufacturers and China’s growing aviation industry.

Airbus has traditionally maintained a strong presence in China and remains one of the country’s largest foreign aircraft suppliers.
