HKIoD Opens Nominations for Director Excellence Awards 2026 Focused on Governance and Resilience

The Hong Kong Institute of Directors (HKIoD) has officially opened nominations for its Director Excellence Awards 2026, a flagship programme aimed at promoting strong corporate governance and board leadership across Hong Kong.

The 2026 edition carries the theme “Navigating Through Disruptive Forces in Challenging Times”, highlighting the increasing pressures on corporate boards to manage digital transformation, economic uncertainty, and shifting stakeholder expectations.

Now in its 26th year, the awards will recognize leadership across three key governance pillars: Directors of the Year, Climate Governance, and Social Impact, with a focus on directors who embed sustainability and governance into core business strategy rather than treating them as compliance functions.

HKIoD Chairman Richard Tsang emphasized that directors today must act as stewards balancing multiple stakeholder interests, while CEO Jonathan Shea encouraged eligible candidates to submit nominations ahead of the 23 July 2026 deadline.

A panel discussion featuring past awardees highlighted how effective boards are increasingly integrating AI oversight, risk management, cybersecurity expertise, and sustainability metrics into decision-making frameworks. Speakers also noted that strong governance now requires measurable, data-driven accountability rather than qualitative reporting alone.

The Institute said the award process also serves as a form of “corporate health check,” encouraging companies to evaluate board effectiveness through structured, evidence-based assessment.

Nominations are open across multiple categories, including listed companies, non-listed companies, and non-profit organisations, with separate recognition for executive directors, non-executive directors, and full boards.

More details and nomination forms are available through the official HKIoD portal.
