Zoox Unveils Redesigned Robotaxi Ahead of Large-Scale Production Launch

Amazon-owned autonomous vehicle company Zoox has introduced a redesigned version of its robotaxi, marking an important step toward large-scale commercial deployment. The updated vehicle maintains Zoox’s distinctive carriage-style design while incorporating several interior and exterior improvements aimed at enhancing rider comfort and usability.

The company announced that the new robotaxi will soon enter large-scale production at its manufacturing facility in Hayward, California. Zoox expects the vehicle to become available to riders later this year, pending regulatory approvals. The facility has the capacity to scale production to as many as 100 vehicles per week, supporting the company's planned expansion efforts.

Inside the vehicle, Zoox has introduced a lighter color scheme intended to create a more relaxing and welcoming atmosphere for passengers. The seats and headrests have also been redesigned with additional padding and ergonomic contours to improve comfort during rides.

The exterior design remains largely consistent with the company's existing robotaxi, preserving its unique bidirectional and driverless layout. However, Zoox has implemented several refinements to improve passenger interaction and safety. The updated vehicle features clearer visual distinctions between the front and rear sections, making it easier for riders to identify the vehicle's orientation. Additionally, a new speaker and microphone system has been integrated into the door interface to improve communication between passengers and the vehicle.

The redesigned robotaxi represents another milestone in Zoox's efforts to bring fully autonomous transportation services to the public. As the company prepares for larger production volumes and expanded operations, the new vehicle could play a key role in the growing competition within the autonomous ride-hailing industry.
