Bharat Forge Wins ₹425 Crore Indian Navy Contract, Expands Defense Business

Shares of Bharat Forge are expected to remain in focus after the company secured a ₹425 crore contract from the Indian Ministry of Defence to supply Gas Turine Generators (GTGs) for the Indian Navy.

Indian Navy Contract Details

The contract was awarded under the Buy (Indian) category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 and will be executed over a five-year period.

The 1.25 MW Gas Turbine Generators will be installed on the Indian Navy's Kolkata-class destroyers, replacing existing lower-capacity power generation systems.

This project represents a major milestone for Bharat Forge as it enters the marine gas turbine segment. The company stated that the program will lead to the deployment of the first indigenous gas turbine-based power plant onboard Indian naval vessels.

Strategic Importance

The order supports India's defense indigenization initiatives and strengthens domestic manufacturing capabilities under the government's self-reliance goals.

Key highlights include:

  • ₹425 crore contract value.
  • Five-year execution timeline.
  • First indigenous marine gas turbine power plant for Indian warships.
  • Expansion into naval power generation systems.
  • Strengthened position in India's defense sector.

Defense Business Expansion

Bharat Forge's defense subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd, has also expanded its international partnerships.

The company recently signed a strategic agreement with U.S.-based AM General to jointly develop next-generation mounted artillery systems for global markets.

Additionally, KSSL and Paramount introduced the Simha 4x4 light armored vehicle, targeting defense requirements across:

  • India
  • Africa
  • South Asia

The company also showcased its MArG series of mounted artillery systems, which are designed to provide highly mobile and rapidly deployable firepower solutions.

Stock Performance

Bharat Forge shares have maintained positive momentum in recent weeks:

  • Up approximately 5% over the past two weeks.
  • Gained about 0.8% during the latest week.
  • Extended gains for a second consecutive week.

Investors are increasingly focusing on the company's growing defense order book, expanding export opportunities, and diversification beyond its traditional automotive components business.

Why Investors Are Watching

The Indian defense sector continues to benefit from rising domestic defense spending and increasing emphasis on local manufacturing. For Bharat Forge, the naval contract:

  • Expands its presence in defense manufacturing.
  • Opens opportunities in marine power systems.
  • Strengthens long-term revenue visibility.
  • Supports export ambitions through defense partnerships.
  • Enhances its position as a key private-sector defense supplier.

The latest contract further reinforces Bharat Forge's transformation from a traditional forging company into a diversified engineering and defense manufacturer with growing exposure to domestic and international defense markets.
