Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project Begins 102 MW Commercial Power Generation

The 102 MW Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project, developed by Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Company Limited in Sindhupalchok District, has officially commenced commercial electricity generation — marking a major milestone in Nepal’s hydropower development journey.

According to the company, the Commercial Operation Date (COD) has been set for Ashwin 20, 2082 (October 6, 2025) at 12:00 noon, following the decision of the Coordination Committee, which includes representatives from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and the company, on Ashwin 29, 2082.

The project’s commercial operation aligns with the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Company Limited and the NEA. With the start of commercial generation, the produced electricity will now be supplied to the national grid under the agreed terms of the PPA.

The company stated that this achievement represents a significant step toward enhancing Nepal’s energy security and hydropower capacity, reinforcing the nation’s path toward sustainable energy independence.
