OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Go Across Asia

OpenAI has announced a major expansion of its budget-friendly subscription plan, ChatGPT Go, to 16 additional Asian countries, bringing the total to 18 nations across the region. The rollout, confirmed by Nick Turley, OpenAI’s head of ChatGPT, underscores the company’s mission to make powerful AI tools accessible to a broader global audience.

Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users,” Turley said in an earlier post on X (formerly Twitter). Following its successful launch in India and Indonesia earlier this year, ChatGPT Go will now be available in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

The expansion is designed to enhance access to OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-5, empowering users with cutting-edge features such as image generation, file uploads, advanced data analysis, and extended chat limits—all at a fraction of the cost of higher-tier plans.

ChatGPT Go was initially priced at ₹399 (about $4.50) in India and Rp75,000 (about $4.53) in Indonesia—significantly cheaper than ChatGPT Plus ($20/month), ChatGPT Pro ($200/month), or the business plan ($25/month). Prices in other Asian countries may vary slightly depending on local markets.

Since its debut in late 2022, ChatGPT’s global adoption has skyrocketed. OpenAI reports that by May 2025, adoption rates in lower-income countries were four times higher than those in higher-income regions, highlighting the growing demand for affordable AI access.

Currently, users in Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal can already access ChatGPT Go via the web and Android, with iOS availability coming soon. This move marks another step in OpenAI’s vision to bridge the digital divide and make AI innovation accessible to everyone, everywhere.
