NBA Returns to China as Nets and Suns Ignite Macao Excitement

After six years, U.S. basketball has made a dazzling comeback to China, sparking immense excitement in Macao. Two preseason games between the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns are being held at The Venetian Hotel, marking the NBA’s long-awaited return.

The hiatus began in 2019 after tensions over Hong Kong protests froze relations between China and the NBA. Now, with political ties easing, the energy surrounding the games is stronger than ever.

In a major boost, Alibaba has signed a multi-year deal with the NBA to provide AI and cloud services in China. Alibaba chairman and Nets owner Joe Tsai said he’s thrilled that his team is leading the league’s comeback, noting that China’s basketball fans have remained deeply passionate throughout the break.

Tsai added that the Nets’ international outlook made the trip natural, calling it a personal thrill to play in Macao and reconnect with fans.

The NBA’s return not only revives basketball excitement but also strengthens cultural and business ties between the U.S. and China, uniting millions of fans once again.
