The Morang Industry Organization has expressed concern over halted industrial production following power supply cuts by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) due to unresolved issues regarding dedicated and trunkline electricity charges.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the organization said that interruptions in electricity supply have forced industrial production to stop, sending a negative signal to the private sector.
βThe dispute over dedicated and trunkline electricity charges has remained unresolved for a long time between NEA and the affected industries. With frequent escalations following changes in government, the situation is being portrayed negatively for the entire private sector, which is a matter of serious concern for us,β the statement read.
The organization highlighted that the power cut has sent adverse signals to national and international investors, and the suspension of production has significantly impacted employment, revenue, bank interest payments, and supply chain networks.
The organization has urged the Nepal Electricity Authority, the Government of Nepal, and the private sector to immediately resolve the dispute through a tripartite coordination mechanism and restore electricity supply without delay. They also requested that the challenges arising from the industrial shutdown be acknowledged and addressed to minimize further disruptions.
