PM Anwar Urges Civil Servants to Uphold Integrity and Excellence in Public Service

Putrajaya, Malaysia – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on civil servants to continuously improve themselves and the quality of their service, rather than becoming complacent with past achievements.

Speaking at the National Development Symposium and Awards (SPAPN) 2025, Anwar emphasized the importance of sincerity, responsibility, and integrity in public service, drawing inspiration from Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on excellence in work.

“Ranks, titles, awards, or positions mean little if we have not fulfilled our duties with honesty and dedication. Do our ideas truly uplift the nation and help those who are marginalised? These are questions of values and responsibility that must be instilled within us to purify intentions and strengthen integrity,” he said.

The event was attended by key officials including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Director-General of Public Service Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

Anwar also lauded Malaysia’s strong economic performance, citing record-high investments, low unemployment, a strengthening ringgit, and one of the best economic showings in Asia.

However, he warned against complacency, stating, “Malaysia is not a large economy, but we have achieved remarkable progress through peace, political stability, teamwork between leaders and civil servants, and effective policy implementation. Such success will not last without continuous effort and unity.”

He urged civil servants to reject corruption, power abuse, divisive politics, and work collectively to build the nation, stressing that with such renewed spirit, “Malaysia would witness an awakening unmatched anywhere.”
