Microsoft has announced that its AI chatbot Copilot will no longer be available on WhatsApp after January 15. After that date, users will need to switch to Microsoft’s own Copilot mobile apps or access the chatbot via the web.
The change comes as WhatsApp updates its platform policies. The Meta-owned messaging service will no longer allow general-purpose AI chatbots to operate through its Business API, reserving resources for other business use cases. While businesses can still use AI to serve customers, WhatsApp will no longer be a distribution channel for chatbots like Microsoft’s Copilot, OpenAI, or Perplexity.
Microsoft warned that chat history on WhatsApp will not be preserved, as the integration was unauthenticated. Users who wish to keep their conversations are advised to export their chats using WhatsApp’s built-in tools before the January 15 cutoff.
