The proposed 270-megawatt capacity Bheri–1 semi-reservoir hydropower project is moving forward with necessary procedures by the Gejwa Group Power Investment Nepal Pvt. Ltd., the developer of the project.
The company has submitted the feasibility study report and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to the Ministry of Forests for approval to begin the construction of the hydropower project.
The Department of Electricity Development has also issued a public notice calling for opinions and suggestions within 35 days if there are any potential adverse impacts from the construction and operation of the project in the project area.
According to the EIA report published through the notice, Gejwa Group Power Investment Nepal Pvt. Ltd., established in 2016 (2073 BS), is registered under the Companies Act 2006 (2063 BS).
The proposed semi-reservoir hydropower project will be constructed on the Bheri River, which flows through Nalgaad Municipality in Jajarkot District and Aathbiskot Municipality in Rukum West District. The dam will be built about one kilometer downstream from Jyamire village, diverting water from the Bheri River. The dam will be 251 meters long and 38.5 meters high from the riverbed surface.
After power generation, the water will be released back into the Bheri River through a tailrace canal 10.11 meters wide.
According to the developer, the project aims to be completed and start electricity production by 2088/2089 BS (2031/2032 AD).
