Australian AI infrastructure company Firmus Technologies has signed a strategic partnership with Nvidia aimed at making advanced computing power more accessible to emerging artificial intelligence companies.
Under the agreement, Firmus will purchase Nvidia infrastructure and deliver Nvidia-powered cloud services to AI-focused customers, including startups and rapidly growing technology firms. The partnership will generate product revenue for Nvidia while also giving the chipmaker a share of cloud-service revenue.
As part of the deal, approximately 170,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) are expected to be deployed between early 2027 and the beginning of 2028. The infrastructure will be located in Batam, Indonesia, creating one of the region's major AI computing hubs.
Firmus estimates the agreement could generate up to $30 billion in revenue during the first six years, supported by existing customer commitments. The company believes the partnership will help smaller AI firms gain access to computing resources that have traditionally been dominated by large technology companies.
According to Firmus co-chief executive Tim Rosenfield, the partnership is designed to narrow the gap between well-funded technology giants and emerging AI developers. Large companies often benefit from stronger credit ratings and easier access to financing, allowing them to secure massive computing resources at lower costs.
By creating a shared infrastructure platform, Firmus aims to give growing AI companies access to high-performance computing without requiring the enormous capital investments typically associated with building data centers.
The deal also deepens existing ties between the two companies. Nvidia has previously participated in Firmus funding rounds and is already an investor in the Australian AI infrastructure company.
Firmus announced earlier this year that it had raised approximately $1.35 billion over the previous six months, giving the company a valuation of about $5.5 billion. The company has also reportedly begun working with investment banks on preparations for a potential initial public offering, although management has declined to comment on IPO plans.
As demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to surge worldwide, partnerships like the one between Firmus and Nvidia highlight the growing importance of cloud computing, data centers, and AI hardware in supporting the next generation of AI companies.
The agreement also reflects a broader industry trend toward expanding access to computing power beyond major technology firms, potentially creating new opportunities for startups and emerging AI developers across global markets.
