Trane Technologies and Amazon Achieve Breakthrough in AI-Driven Building Decarbonization

SWORDS, IE / ACCESS Newswire / December 1, 2025 — Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), a global leader in climate innovation, and Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) have announced major progress in their joint efforts to cut energy use and carbon emissions across key real estate facilities. The initiative—powered by Trane Technologies through BrainBox AI and supported by AWS—has delivered impressive results in building decarbonization, showcasing how advanced AI can meaningfully reshape energy efficiency in large-scale operations.

AI Deployment Exceeds Expectations with 15% Energy Savings

The first phase of the project was implemented across three Amazon Grocery fulfillment centers in North America. Early outcomes surpassed initial projections, achieving nearly 15% reductions in energy consumption, more than double the original target.

BrainBox AI, acquired by Trane Technologies in January 2025, autonomously optimizes HVAC systems using real-time decision-making powered by artificial intelligence. This approach allows buildings to reduce energy use, cut carbon emissions, and minimize operational costs—all while maintaining comfort and performance standards.

Following the success of the pilot program, Trane Technologies and Amazon plan to expand deployments across more than 30 grocery fulfillment and distribution centers across the U.S. A broader pilot in Amazon grocery stores is set to begin in 2026.

Driving Innovation Toward Amazon’s Sustainability Goals

“At Trane Technologies, sustainability is at the core of everything we do,” said Riaz Raihan, Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Trane Technologies. “This collaboration not only transforms fulfillment centers but also accelerates Amazon’s sustainability objectives while delivering strong operational returns.”

The initiative aligns closely with Amazon’s wider climate strategy. As part of its commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 under The Climate Pledge, Amazon is urgently adopting smart technologies to decarbonize existing buildings while incorporating low-carbon materials and sustainable engineering into new construction.

“At Amazon, we're continually searching for scalable, data-driven solutions to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Christina Minardi, Vice President of Worldwide Grocery Stores Real Estate and Store Development at Amazon. “With Trane Technologies and BrainBox AI, our buildings are becoming intelligent systems that adapt in real time—supporting both sustainability and performance.”

A Product of the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator

BrainBox AI’s role in this initiative gained momentum after its selection for the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator Climate Tech Pilot in 2024. The program provided leading climate-tech start-ups the opportunity to test solutions within Amazon’s global operations.

Supported by AWS technologies—including Amazon S3 and Amazon Bedrock—BrainBox AI demonstrated strong performance in reducing carbon output and enhancing operational efficiency.

“Amazon’s global reach makes this collaboration a powerful milestone,” said Jean-Simon Venne, Founder and President of BrainBox AI. “We’re proving that AI can drive measurable economic and environmental impact and help transform every building into an active agent in the fight against climate change.”

A Long-Term Strategic Partnership

Trane Technologies and BrainBox AI have worked together for over two years, combining AI innovation with advanced building management systems. The acquisition of BrainBox AI in January 2025 has further strengthened the partnership and accelerated AI-driven sustainability initiatives.
