Tesla Sales Plummet in Germany Amid Controversy and Competition

Berlin — Tesla sold just 750 electric vehicles (EVs) in Germany in October 2025, less than half the number sold a year ago, according to data released Wednesday by Germany’s Federal Transport Authority (KBA). In October 2024, Tesla delivered 1,607 EVs in the country.

Despite the drop in Tesla sales, Germany’s overall EV market continues to grow robustly. Year-to-date, 434,627 new battery electric vehicles were registered, nearly a 40% increase from the same period last year. Tesla’s cumulative deliveries in Germany totaled 15,595 EVs, a 50% decline compared with 2024.

Factors Behind the Decline

Tesla operates a major assembly plant in Brandenburg, near Berlin, yet the brand has struggled to maintain local popularity. Analysts attribute part of the decline to Elon Musk’s controversial political statements, including his support for Germany’s far-right AfD party, which has alienated left-leaning consumers.

“Musk’s rhetoric and political endorsements have weighed on Tesla’s appeal among German buyers,” said an industry observer familiar with the market.

The data highlights the challenges Tesla faces in maintaining its foothold in Europe, where competition from established German automakers and shifting consumer sentiment increasingly affect sales.
