Telefónica has strengthened its position in Spain’s sports broadcasting market by securing exclusive rights to broadcast five La Liga matches per matchday for five seasons, covering 2027–28 to 2031–32. The agreement, valued at 2.635 billion euros, averages 527.2 million euros per year, reinforcing Telefónica’s long-standing dominance in premium football content through its Movistar+ platform.
The deal ensures continued access to top-flight Spanish football for Movistar+ subscribers and solidifies Telefónica’s strategic focus on high-value entertainment assets that boost customer retention and competitiveness in the telecommunications market.
Telefónica Exploring Sale of Zeleris
In parallel with its major media investment, Telefónica is considering divesting its logistics subsidiary Zeleris. According to El Economista, several potential buyers are already in discussions, including OnTime, Everwood, ICP, CTDI, and Boyacá.
The potential sale aligns with Telefónica’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations, reduce debt, and concentrate on core business areas such as telecom services, digital transformation, and media rights. Zeleris, which provides transport, logistics, and e-commerce delivery services, has attracted interest due to its strategic footprint and established distribution network across Spain.
