Moscow, Russia – Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday labeled recent Ukrainian attacks on oil tankers and Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) facilities in the Black Sea as “acts of terrorism,” warning that such actions threaten freedom of navigation in the strategically important region.
The CPC, which is jointly owned by Russian, Kazakh, and U.S. shareholders, reported that it had halted operations after a mooring at its Russian terminal on the Black Sea was severely damaged in a Ukrainian naval drone strike.
In a statement, Russia’s ministry emphasized that the targeted facilities constitute civilian energy infrastructure, critical to global energy security, and have never been subject to any international restrictions or limitations. The ministry’s comments underscore Moscow’s stance that the attacks represent not only a direct threat to energy operations but also broader risks to maritime safety in the Black Sea.
