Poor food hygiene has been observed in the canteen and hostel dining hall of Padma Kanya College. During a joint inspection carried out by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, even the most basic hygiene practices were found lacking, according to Food Technologist Anil Basnet.
Padma Kanya College lies in Ward No. 28, Bagbazar of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. During the inspection, 700 grams of expired chow mein were destroyed from the college canteen. The dining hall operated for residential students also showed weak sanitation standards. Food items in the store room were found to be stored in an unorganized and unsafe manner.
The kitchen’s exhaust fan was not functioning, and the cooking area had accumulated black soot and dirt. Additionally, no pest control measures were implemented in the kitchen.
This dining hall is operated by P.K. Chyamena Griha & Restaurant.
