Nepal Agrees to Export an Additional 20 MW of Electricity to Bangladesh

Nepal and Bangladesh have reached a new agreement to expand their cross-border energy cooperation. During the Nepal–Bangladesh energy secretary–level meeting held on Thursday in Dhaka, both countries agreed that Nepal will export an additional 20 MW of electricity to Bangladesh.

The meeting was led by Nepal’s Energy Secretary Chiranjivi Chataut and Bangladesh’s Energy Secretary Farzana Mamtaz. Officials from both sides emphasized strengthening long-term energy partnerships and enhancing regional power trade.

Nepal is currently exporting 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh. With this new agreement, the export capacity will rise to 60 MW, marking another significant step in Nepal’s growing energy trade. The increased supply is expected to support Bangladesh’s rising electricity demand while contributing to Nepal’s electricity export revenues.

Both nations expressed interest in further expanding energy cooperation in the future, signaling a positive move toward deeper regional energy integration in South Asia.
