South Korean technology giant LG Electronics is partnering with Ethereum layer-2 network Arbitrum to develop a blockchain-based advertising platform aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in the digital advertising industry.
According to reports, the new advertising network would use Arbitrum's blockchain infrastructure to create a shared database of advertising inventory while tracking how users interact with advertisements. The initiative seeks to streamline the buying and selling of digital ad space and reduce reliance on traditional intermediaries.
Samuel Byungsun Park, head of LG Electronics' blockchain research lab, said the company is evaluating whether the blockchain-based approach can deliver meaningful benefits for advertisers, publishers, and consumers. LG is reportedly exploring ways to bring the service to market later this year.
The digital advertising industry continues to grow rapidly. Global advertising giant Dentsu estimates that digital ad spending reached approximately $679 billion in 2025, accounting for nearly 68% of total worldwide advertising expenditure. As the market expands, companies are increasingly looking for technologies that can improve efficiency and transparency.
Traditional advertising networks often depend on multiple intermediaries to facilitate transactions between advertisers and publishers. These intermediaries can increase costs and reduce visibility into how advertising budgets are spent. A blockchain-powered solution could help address these challenges by providing a transparent and verifiable record of advertising transactions.
Arbitrum co-founder Steven Goldfeder explained that blockchain technology can automate many aspects of the advertising marketplace. By operating on software-driven smart contracts, the system could reduce the need for manual intervention while improving trust among participants.
News of the partnership generated positive market sentiment, with Arbitrum's native token, ARB, rising more than 5% following reports of the collaboration. The development highlights growing interest in real-world blockchain applications beyond decentralized finance and cryptocurrency trading.
LG's interest in blockchain technology is not new. The company and its affiliates have been exploring blockchain solutions for several years. In 2018, LG CNS, a subsidiary of the LG Group, launched Monachain, an enterprise blockchain platform focused on digital identity verification, payments, and supply chain management.
During the NFT boom of 2022, LG Electronics introduced Wallypto, a decentralized cryptocurrency wallet built on the Hedera Hashgraph network. The wallet was designed to work alongside LG Art Lab, the company's NFT marketplace that allowed users to display digital artwork directly on compatible LG televisions.
However, as interest in NFTs declined, LG shut down the LG Art Lab platform in June 2025 and later discontinued the Wallypto wallet in September of the same year. Despite those closures, the company appears committed to exploring practical blockchain applications with broader commercial potential.
The partnership with Arbitrum represents another step in LG's blockchain strategy, focusing on enterprise use cases that could reshape how digital advertising markets operate. If successful, the project could demonstrate how blockchain technology can improve transparency, reduce costs, and increase efficiency in one of the world's largest digital industries.
