JetBlue Airways is extending its trans-Atlantic network with daily flights from Boston to Barcelona starting April 16, 2026, and to Milan beginning May 11, 2026. The airline will operate these new routes using its Airbus A321LR long-range jets, which, while carrying fewer passengers than wide-body aircraft, are more cost-efficient due to lower fuel consumption. The Milan flight will be the longest in JetBlue’s network, taking approximately nine hours westbound and seven hours 45 minutes eastbound. These additions highlight JetBlue’s strategy of focusing on profitable long-haul routes with premium Mint class seats, targeting higher-spending vacation travelers. This move follows the airline’s 2021 debut of trans-Atlantic service to London and its expansion to Paris, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and Dublin. JetBlue is also enhancing the passenger experience with a new lounge at JFK Airport for trans-Atlantic Mint customers. The broader industry trend shows U.S. carriers increasingly deploying narrow-body long-range jets for international routes, offering lower operating costs while maintaining premium services.
