New Delhi, November 2025 – India’s sugar output has accelerated sharply, with 1.05 million metric tons produced since the start of the 2025/26 season on October 1, a 48% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF).
Key highlights:
- 325 sugar mills are operational, up from 144 last year.
- Net sugar production is projected to reach 31.5 million tons, even after diverting 3.5 million tons for ethanol production.
- Domestic consumption is estimated at 29 million tons, leaving potential for 2–2.5 million tons of exports.
- India recently allowed mills to export 1.5 million tons in the new season.
The surge is attributed to improved cane supplies and increased mill operations across the country.
