When a company’s shares trade ex-dividend, the stock price adjusts to reflect the upcoming dividend payout. From that date onward, the shares no longer carry the value of the next dividend payment.
Dividends are paid to all shareholders who hold the company’s stock before the record date. To qualify, investors must own the shares at least one trading day prior to the record date.
