New AI Feature Aims to Personalize Browsing Experience
Mozilla Firefox is integrating artificial intelligence into its browser to stay competitive in a crowded market. The company has introduced AI Window, a private browsing mode designed to provide AI-powered assistance while allowing users to maintain control and privacy.
“While others are building AI experiences that keep you locked in a conversational loop, we see a different path — one where AI serves as a trusted companion, enhancing your browsing experience and guiding you outward to the broader web,” Mozilla said in a blog post.
The AI Window feature is opt-in, giving users the ability to chat with an AI assistant while browsing. Users can also select the AI model that fits their needs and toggle the feature on or off at any time. Mozilla is currently building the feature publicly, with users needing to join a waitlist to access it initially.
This launch marks Firefox’s third AI initiative, following:
- AI chatbot in the desktop sidebar
- Shake to Summarize on iOS, which generates AI summaries of webpages
Browser Competition Intensifies
Google Chrome continues to dominate the desktop browser market with 69.33% market share, but competition is emerging as AI-powered browsers gain traction. Other notable AI browser entries include:
- Perplexity’s Comet AI – now on desktop, coming to mobile
- OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas – available on Mac, expanding to other platforms
Firefox has a unique edge due to its longstanding presence in the browser market and its Gecko engine, which differs from Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Opera, and ChatGPT Atlas.

- Microsoft Edge: 15.48%
- Safari: 7.5%
- Firefox: 4.84%
Mozilla hopes that AI Window will attract users seeking a more personalized and AI-enhanced browsing experience while maintaining privacy and independence from Chromium.
