OpenAI Revenue Could Exceed $70 Billion Annualized by Year-End

OpenAI is projecting that its annualized revenue could reach or exceed $70 billion by the end of 2026, driven largely by strong growth in its enterprise business, according to people familiar with the matter.

The company generated approximately $50 billion in annualized revenue at the end of September, the people said. Annualized revenue estimates a company's potential yearly sales based on its recent revenue performance rather than its actual revenue over a full year.

OpenAI Seeks $30 Billion or More in New Funding

OpenAI has shared its revenue figures with investors during discussions about its latest fundraising round. The company is reportedly seeking to raise at least $30 billion at a pre-money valuation of approximately $1.4 trillion.

The funding discussions come as OpenAI continues investing heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure, product development and enterprise services. The company declined to comment on its revenue projections or fundraising plans.

Competition in the AI Industry Intensifies

OpenAI and other artificial intelligence companies increasingly use annualized revenue as a measure of business growth. However, differences in accounting methods and the treatment of cloud-provider sales can make comparisons between companies difficult.

Anthropic, one of OpenAI's major competitors, reportedly reached $65 billion in annualized revenue by the end of July, according to previous Bloomberg reporting.

Earlier estimates had suggested that OpenAI was already approaching $70 billion in annualized revenue. However, differences in how investors calculate these figures have contributed to conflicting estimates.

AI Stocks Face Market Pressure

Reports about OpenAI's revenue projections contributed to pressure on technology stocks on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as investors reassessed expectations for the artificial intelligence industry.

The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.4%, while an index tracking major semiconductor companies declined 3.4%. The market reaction highlighted how closely investors are watching the financial performance of leading AI companies and the businesses supplying their computing infrastructure.

OpenAI's IPO Plans and Investment Outlook

OpenAI has reportedly pushed back its initial public offering plans until at least 2027, with the company prioritizing its artificial intelligence development and safety efforts. Meanwhile, Anthropic is reportedly considering an IPO as soon as November 2026.

OpenAI is also in discussions with several investment funds from the United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi-based MGX, about participating in its latest financing round.

In March 2026, OpenAI raised $122 billion at a valuation of approximately $852 billion, including the new investment.

What This Means for the AI Industry

OpenAI's revenue growth reflects the expanding commercial market for AI tools, particularly among businesses adopting AI assistants, automation systems and advanced language models.

However, annualized revenue is not the same as actual annual revenue or profit. The company's future financial performance will depend on continued customer demand, operating costs, infrastructure spending and its ability to turn AI adoption into sustainable business growth.

As competition intensifies between OpenAI, Anthropic and other technology companies, investors will increasingly focus on revenue quality, profitability and the long-term economics of artificial intelligence.
