India has increased the price of domestic cooking gas (LPG), adding further pressure on household fuel expenses.
Indian Oil Corporation raised the price of a standard 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi by ₹29, effective June 7.
The price change means:
- Previous price: ₹913 per cylinder
- New price: ₹942 per cylinder
- Increase: ₹29 per cylinder (about 3.2%)
India's major state-owned fuel retailers, including Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, generally align their LPG pricing with Indian Oil, meaning the increase is expected to be reflected across the country with minor regional variations.
The price hike comes amid continued volatility in global energy markets and elevated fuel costs linked to tensions in the Middle East. Higher crude oil and energy prices have increased the cost of importing and supplying LPG.
For Indian households, LPG is a primary cooking fuel, making price changes particularly important for monthly household budgets. The increase may also contribute to broader inflationary pressures, especially for lower- and middle-income consumers.
The latest adjustment highlights how global energy market developments continue to influence domestic fuel prices, despite government efforts to manage inflation and protect consumers from sharp cost increases.
