BCCI Denies Rumours of Kohli and Rohit Returning from Test Retirement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed circulating rumours suggesting that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might return to Test cricket.

Speaking to AajTak, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said:
"What’s being said about Virat Kohli is just a rumour. There has been no conversation with Kohli about this. Do not give weight to rumours. Nothing of that sort has happened."

The speculation gained attention after former England all-rounder Kevin Pietersen posted on X, hinting that if the reports were true, it would be significant for the survival of Test cricket. He wrote that the return of India’s biggest stars to the longest format would be “very very serious” news.

Both Kohli and Rohit retired from Test cricket in May 2025. Kohli ended his career with 9,230 runs in 123 Tests at an average of 46.85, while Rohit scored 4,301 runs in 67 Tests at an average of 40.57.

The duo remains active in ODIs, and both have expressed interest in participating in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. However, the BCCI has not confirmed their participation in the upcoming tournament.
