Budapest, Hungary – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Thursday that he will hold talks on Friday aimed at securing sufficient Russian crude and gas supplies for Hungary. The discussions could also allow Hungary to provide crude to neighbouring Serbia, Orban said.
The prime minister did not disclose additional details or the location of the meetings, following press reports suggesting he may meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Orban added that Hungary would be “pleased” to play a role in Serbia’s NIS refinery, which has been affected by U.S. sanctions, but emphasized that the decision ultimately rests with Serbia regarding the refinery’s future.
