Mexico has announced an immediate suspension of all pork product imports from Spain following the detection of a swine fever outbreak, the country’s agriculture ministry confirmed on Friday.
The ministry stated that the decision aligns with international animal-health protocols designed to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases that could threaten Mexico’s domestic pork industry. Authorities emphasized that the suspension is a preventive measure intended to safeguard national production and maintain biosecurity standards.
According to the statement, the restriction covers both commercial shipments and pork products carried by travelers, ensuring that no potentially contaminated goods enter the country through any channel.
The ministry added that it will continue monitoring the situation in Spain and will review the measures as updated animal-health information becomes available.
