Sudurpashchim Province GDP Estimated at NPR 4.30 Trillion; Agriculture Leads Economic Contribution

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Sudurpashchim Province is estimated to reach NPR 4.30 trillion in the fiscal year 2081/82. According to the annual report of the Economic Activity Study 2081/82 published by the Nepal Rastra Bank, the province is expected to achieve a GDP growth rate of 3.28% during the year.

Preliminary estimates suggest that Sudurpashchim will contribute 0.703% to Nepal’s total GDP in the current fiscal year. By major industrial classification, the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector contributes the most at 34.72%, while the Administrative and Support Services sector contributes the least at 0.13%. These trends are consistent with the previous fiscal year 2080/81, where agriculture led with 33% and administration remained lowest at 0.13%.


Growth Estimates by Value

For FY 2081/82:

  • GDP at current prices: NPR 4.30 trillion
  • Economic growth rate: 3.32% at consumer prices, 2.71% at basic prices
  • Sectoral growth rate at basic prices:
    • Primary sector: 2.82%
    • Secondary sector: 2%
    • Tertiary sector: 2.09%

Agriculture and Crop Production

The major crops—food and other crops, vegetables, fruits, and spices—showed a 2.16% increase in cultivated area and 2.77% growth in production.

  • Highest growth: Oilseeds (+18.89%) and potatoes (+16.11%)
  • Largest decline: Buckwheat (-77.88%)

Animal-based production showed growth as well:

  • Fish: +10.36%
  • Meat: +0.79%
  • Wool: +3.27%
  • Eggs: +1.76%

Bank loans to agriculture accounted for 10.14% of total loans in the province. However, by Ashad 2082, agriculture loans decreased by 3.41% compared to Ashad 2081, totaling NPR 1.596 billion.


Industry and Tourism

  • Average industrial capacity utilization for sampled industries: 34.47%
  • A drop in aggregate demand led to a decline in overall industrial production
  • Total bank loans to the industrial sector increased by 4.37% compared to Ashad 2081, reaching NPR 2.672 billion
  • Sampled hotels: Average occupancy 36.40%

Real Estate and Banking

  • House and land registrations: +37.50%
  • Registration revenue: +37.62%
  • Total bank deposits: +16.30% compared to last Ashad
  • Loan disbursement: +2.98%
  • Registered vehicles: +35.07%
  • Bank loans to service sector: 72.88% of total loans

Government Budget Utilization

  • Current expenditure utilization: 75.66% of allocated budget
  • Capital expenditure utilization: 66.47% of allocated budget

These figures indicate steady economic growth in Sudurpashchim Province, with agriculture remaining the dominant contributor, while services, industry, and tourism show moderate improvements.
