Remittances to Nepal Exceed NPR 5.5 Trillion in First Three Months of Current Fiscal Year

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Nepal has received over NPR 5.53 trillion in remittances during the first three months of the current fiscal year, marking a 35.4% increase compared to the same period last year.

In the month of Asoj alone, remittances totaled NPR 2.01 trillion, up from NPR 1.44 trillion recorded in the same month of the previous year. Calculated in U.S. dollars, remittances received in the three-month period amounted to USD 394 million, reflecting a 10.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

During the review period, the total number of self-transfer remittances reached NPR 6.10 trillion. Regarding foreign employment, 123,459 Nepali workers obtained initial labor approvals (both institutional and individual new approvals), while 77,257 workers received renewal labor approvals. In comparison, during the same period last year, 110,654 workers received new approvals and 59,939 workers received renewals.

This data highlights continued growth in remittances and foreign employment, reflecting the significant contribution of migrant workers to Nepal’s economy.
