Birgunj Border Exports Surge Sharply in First Quarter of FY 2082/83

Exports from the Birgunj border checkpoint have witnessed a remarkable rise in the first three months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year, according to the Birgunj Customs Office.

Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali reported that goods worth Rs 26.59 billion were exported during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, a substantial increase from Rs 8.84 billion recorded during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Among the major export commodities, refined soybean oil topped the list, with 67.13 billion liters exported, valued at Rs 13.98 billion. Similarly, juice exports amounted to 21.148 billion liters, worth Rs 2.7 billion.

Other significant export items included refined sunflower oil (36.848 billion liters worth Rs 1.7 billion), garments (24.95 billion pieces worth Rs 970 million), and synthetic yarn valued at Rs 660 million.

Officials attributed the sharp rise in exports to improved border operations, favorable trade policies, and steady demand from international markets. The increase highlights Birgunj’s growing importance as Nepal’s primary trade gateway, playing a crucial role in boosting the nation’s overall export performance.
