Northwestern Kellogg Reinvents MBA Case Method with AI

Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management is transforming the traditional M.B.A. case method using AI. Instead of reviewing reports, students interact with AI chatbots representing executives, employees, and other stakeholders to extract necessary data and craft strategies. In one case, students worked on a $50 million school district transportation deficit, engaging in over 50 messages per character. The AI characters have distinct personalities, including sassiness and reluctance to share information, creating a realistic, consulting-like experience. This approach forces students to think critically, prioritize information, and engage deeply, replicating real-world business decision-making. Since early 2025, more than 2,000 students have participated, and similar AI-driven exercises are being adopted at other top business schools, providing an immersive and practical learning experience.
