Netflix Faces Pressure as Analysts Cut Targets, Retail Sentiment Turns Bearish

Netflix shares remain under pressure after analysts lowered price targets and retail investor sentiment weakened following three consecutive weeks of declines.

Jefferies reduced its price target on Netflix to $110 from $128, implying significant downside from current levels. The firm cited growing competition for user attention but noted that Netflix's new short-form video feature, Clips, and potential restrictions on social media use among younger users could support future growth.

The stock has fallen roughly 40% from its all-time high reached last year and is down 14% in 2026, as investors reassess slowing revenue growth, increasing competition, and leadership changes following the transition of co-founder Reed Hastings from board chairman.

Although Netflix continues to exceed Wall Street earnings expectations, investors were disappointed by its first-quarter guidance and unchanged full-year outlook. Concerns have also emerged that future growth may rely more on pricing and advertising initiatives rather than subscriber expansion.

Despite the weakness in share performance, several institutional investors increased their positions during the first quarter, signaling continued confidence in Netflix’s long-term business model, advertising growth, and cash flow potential.

Meanwhile, Netflix recently appointed longtime lead independent director Jay Hoag as chairman of the board and is expanding the use of artificial intelligence tools to improve content recommendations and user engagement.

Retail sentiment has turned increasingly negative, with some investors expressing frustration over the ad-supported subscription tier. However, institutional ownership remains above 80%, indicating that major investors continue to maintain a positive long-term outlook on the streaming giant.
