Strategy Resumes Bitcoin Buying, Lifting Crypto Market Sentiment

Shares of Strategy jumped more than 5% on Monday after the company resumed buying Bitcoin, reversing course just one week after its first Bitcoin sale since 2022. The company purchased 1,550 Bitcoin between June 1 and June 7 for approximately $101.3 million, paying an average price of $65,332 per coin. The move reassured investors who had been concerned that the recent sale signaled a shift away from Strategy's long-standing Bitcoin accumulation strategy.

The purchase was funded through the company's at-the-market stock issuance program. Strategy sold about 1.41 million shares, raising roughly $181 million, and still has nearly $26 billion available for future capital raises. The company's executive chairman, Michael Saylor, hinted at the acquisition over the weekend by posting the firm's well-known Bitcoin tracker chart alongside the message, "A good time to add more dots."

Following the announcement, other crypto-related stocks also moved higher. Coinbase Global rose nearly 6%, Robinhood Markets gained about 3%, and Circle Internet Group advanced more than 2%. Meanwhile, Bitcoin climbed above $63,000 after briefly falling below $60,000 last week, while Ethereum and Solana each gained more than 3%.

Strategy now owns 845,256 Bitcoin, acquired for roughly $64 billion including fees and expenses. At current market prices, the holdings are worth about $53.5 billion, making Strategy by far the largest corporate Bitcoin holder in the world. The company controls more than 4% of Bitcoin's maximum supply of 21 million coins, cementing its influence on the cryptocurrency market.

The latest purchase also helped calm concerns created by the company's recent sale of 32 Bitcoin, which generated approximately $2.5 million to fund dividend payments on its STRC preferred stock. Although the sale represented only a tiny fraction of its holdings, some investors worried it contradicted Saylor's long-standing "buy and hold forever" philosophy. Analysts at JPMorgan said the sale temporarily unsettled the market, while crypto exchange Kraken's chief economist, Thomas Perfumo, described Strategy as the "single most influential entity" in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Despite Monday's rebound, analysts remain focused on broader market conditions. Recent outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs suggest institutional demand has weakened, and some researchers believe Bitcoin still needs stronger buying support before establishing a lasting price bottom. Nevertheless, Strategy's return to buying has restored confidence among many crypto investors and reinforced its role as one of the strongest long-term advocates for Bitcoin adoption.
