Kazakhstan in Talks Over Lukoil’s Stakes Amid Western Sanctions

Kazakhstan’s authorities are consulting experts on how to handle Russian oil producer Lukoil’s stakes in local projects, Aidar Ryskulov, chairman of the Kazakh sovereign wealth fund Samruk Kazyna, said in Astana.

Lukoil announced on Monday that it would sell its international assets following the U.S. sanctions over Ukraine imposed last week.

The planned divestment represents the most significant move by a Russian company since the Western sanctions were introduced in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
