Europe’s gas storage levels are expected to stand at about 35% by the end of this winter, according to Vitol’s head of LNG trading, Claudio Ribeiro, speaking at the Asia Gas Markets Conference on Tuesday.
As of October 1, 2025, Europe’s gas storage levels were at 83%, based on European Commission data, while last winter ended with storage levels at 34%.
Ribeiro highlighted that the upcoming winter will be crucial for Europe’s gas balance. He said, “We have a European winter to go through, which will be critical for end-of-winter balances. Today we are projecting around 35% storage at end of winter.”
He also noted that weather forecasts indicate greater than a 50% chance of a La Niña winter, which typically brings colder temperatures, potentially affecting gas demand and supply conditions.
