Cloudflare Q2 Revenue Surges 36% as Agentic AI Drives Growth
Cloudflare Beats Expectations as AI and Developer Demand Fuel Nearly 36% Revenue Growth

Cloud security and performance provider Cloudflare (NYSE: NET) delivered a strong second-quarter performance, beating Wall Street expectations on both revenue and earnings while raising its outlook for the rest of 2026.

The company’s results highlighted accelerating demand for AI infrastructure, application security, Zero Trust networking, and developer services, sending a positive signal about Cloudflare’s expanding role in the next generation of internet infrastructure.

Shares rose following the earnings release as investors responded to the stronger-than-expected growth and improved guidance.

Revenue and Earnings Top Estimates

For the second quarter of calendar year 2026, Cloudflare reported:

  • Revenue: $696.1 million
  • Adjusted EPS: $0.29

Analysts had expected:

  • Revenue: $664.8 million
  • Adjusted EPS: $0.27

That represented:

  • 35.9% year-over-year revenue growth
  • a 4.7% revenue beat
  • and a 7.5% earnings beat.

The company also generated adjusted operating income of $96.1 million, ahead of the $90.6 million expected by analysts.

Billings, a key indicator of future revenue, reached $753.5 million, up 34.8% from a year earlier, suggesting that customer demand remained strong heading into the second half of the year.

Cloudflare Raised Full-Year Guidance

Management increased its outlook for both revenue and profitability.

The company now expects:

  • Full-year revenue: $2.87 billion at the midpoint, up from $2.81 billion
  • Full-year adjusted EPS: $1.26 at the midpoint, up 5% from prior guidance.

Cloudflare also issued optimistic guidance for the next quarter, forecasting $736.5 million in revenue, about 2.1% above Wall Street’s expectations.

The guidance increase was one of the clearest signs that management sees the recent growth acceleration as sustainable rather than temporary.

AI Is Becoming Central to Cloudflare’s Story

CEO Matthew Prince framed the quarter around the rapid rise of agentic AI, in which autonomous software agents communicate with each other, access APIs, execute tasks, and move data across networks with minimal human involvement.

“Developers are flocking to Cloudflare because our Workers developer platform gives them what they need to build that agentic future,” Prince said.

According to management, more than half of all traffic on Cloudflare’s network is now nonhuman, reflecting a major shift toward machine-to-machine communication.

That trend is important because it creates demand for:

  • low-latency edge computing,
  • API security,
  • identity and access controls,
  • automated payment systems,
  • and high-volume transaction processing.

Cloudflare believes this evolution could significantly expand the size of its addressable market beyond traditional web security and content delivery.

Workers Platform Is Seeing Rapid Adoption

One of the biggest growth drivers was Cloudflare Workers, the company’s serverless developer platform.

Management said the platform added nearly 2 million developers during the quarter, making it one of the fastest-growing parts of the business.

Workers allows developers to run code on Cloudflare’s global edge network, which is increasingly attractive for:

  • AI inference workloads,
  • real-time applications,
  • API processing,
  • and autonomous AI-agent systems that require fast responses across distributed networks.

Prince described Workers as the “go-to place for sophisticated developers to launch code,” particularly for applications involving AI automation and agent-based workflows.

Enterprise Momentum Continues to Strengthen

Cloudflare also reported strong traction with large enterprise customers.

The company achieved its highest-ever net additions of customers spending more than $100,000 annually, adding 986 large customers year over year.

Management said demand was broad-based across:

  • application security,
  • Zero Trust networking,
  • developer services,
  • and integrated infrastructure platforms that combine multiple Cloudflare products under a single contract.

An increasing number of customers are signing “pool of funds” agreements, which allow them to flexibly consume different Cloudflare services as their infrastructure needs evolve.

New Monetization Tools Target AI Agents

A notable strategic development was the introduction of Monetization Gateway and cloudflare.pay.

These products are designed to support microtransactions between AI agents, enabling automated software systems to:

  • pay for API access,
  • purchase data,
  • consume cloud services,
  • or compensate other agents for completing tasks.

Management argued that the emerging agentic internet could require infrastructure capable of processing far more transactions per second than traditional payment networks were designed to handle.

While these products are still early-stage, they represent an attempt to position Cloudflare not just as a security and networking provider, but as a foundational infrastructure layer for AI-driven internet commerce.

One Weak Spot: Operating Margin Deteriorated

Despite the strong top-line performance, one figure stood out negatively.

Cloudflare reported a GAAP operating margin of -29.6%, compared with -13.1% in the same quarter last year.

The decline reflects:

  • higher infrastructure investment,
  • increased research and development spending,
  • costs associated with expanding AI and developer capabilities,
  • and restructuring and product-mix effects.

Management emphasized that it remains focused on operational efficiency and improving unit economics, but the margin deterioration shows that Cloudflare is still prioritizing growth and platform expansion over near-term GAAP profitability.

Why Investors Are Paying Attention

Cloudflare’s market capitalization has climbed to approximately $106.9 billion, reflecting investor confidence that the company could become a critical piece of the AI-era internet stack.

The bullish thesis rests on several factors:

  • Fast revenue growth approaching 36%
  • Rapid expansion of the Workers platform
  • Strong enterprise customer momentum
  • Rising demand for AI-related security and networking infrastructure
  • Potential new revenue streams from agent-based payment and monetization services

The company is also benefiting from the broader trend of businesses seeking integrated platforms that combine networking, security, compute, and developer tools, rather than managing multiple separate vendors.

What to Watch Going Forward

Investors will likely focus on three key questions in upcoming quarters:

1. Can AI and Agentic Traffic Continue Driving Growth?

The surge in nonhuman traffic is a compelling narrative, but investors will want evidence that it translates into meaningful recurring revenue and expanding margins.

2. Will the New Monetization Models Gain Traction?

Products such as Monetization Gateway and cloudflare.pay could open entirely new markets, but adoption remains uncertain and could introduce greater variability in revenue timing.

3. Can Cloudflare Improve Operating Leverage?

The company’s long-term valuation assumes that its global network can support substantially higher revenue with proportionally lower incremental costs. Stabilizing gross margins and narrowing GAAP operating losses will be critical to that thesis.

The Bottom Line

Cloudflare delivered a stronger-than-expected quarter across virtually every major operating metric:

  • revenue grew 35.9%,
  • adjusted earnings beat estimates,
  • billings remained robust,
  • and management raised both revenue and EPS guidance for the full year.

The results reinforce the view that Cloudflare is evolving from a traditional content delivery and security company into a broader cloud infrastructure platform built for the AI era.

Its biggest opportunity may be the rapid growth of agentic AI workloads, where autonomous software systems require secure, low-latency infrastructure, developer tools, and potentially new payment mechanisms to interact with each other across the internet.

The main challenge is that Cloudflare must continue investing heavily to capture that opportunity, which is currently pressuring its GAAP operating margins.

For now, however, the company appears to be successfully balancing rapid growth, expanding enterprise adoption, and aggressive AI-driven innovation, positioning itself as one of the more compelling infrastructure stories emerging from the ongoing transformation of the internet by artificial intelligence.
